Hardback Card Game

Hardback Card Game

Hardback is a deck-building word game, a prequel to Paperback. As an aspiring 19th-century novelist, you work to pen your next masterpiece, earning prestige along the way. Specialize your deck in certain genres to exploit card combinations, and press your luck to draw extra cards ? but make sure you can still string a word together!

Players build a deck of letters with various powers and race to 60 fame points to win. Some of the features:

  • No wilds in your deck - any card can be wild.
  • Push your luck for more cards with the Ink system.
  • Match genre colors to gain bonus abilities on your cards.
  • Fight over the coveted Endorsement cards.
  • New Persistent cards stay in play, until someone uses them!

In addition to the competitive race mode for 2-5 players, the base game includes several variant rules, including Literary Awards, Adverts, Player Powers, and Events; and a co-op mode for 1-4 players, in which players join forces against one of four simulated opponents, each of which is proficient in a different deck genre.

  • Paperback Adventures Card Game: Plothook Expansion

Paperback Adventures Card Game: Plothook Expansion

As Plothook the Pirate, you can have exciting Paperback Adventures alone or with a friend.

    Paperback Adventures Character Box

  • Word-heavy playstyle
  • Barrage cards get bonuses for longer words
  • Can drain the enemy's life!
  • Can copy the effect of an item ? effectively using it twice
  • Crew cards come back from the fatigue pile

As long as you have at least one character box, the core box contains everything else you need to play the game. The core box also has space to store the bonus content from each of your character boxes (note: not all content from those boxes), allowing you to set up a new game more quickly.

  • Paperback Card Game: Unabridged Expansion

    Paperback Card Game: Unabridged Expansion

A modular expansion for Paperback that adds 80 new cards, new abilities, typos, and 16 new covers.

  • Lowercase Letter Cards We're introducing a whole new type of victory card. They're letter cards, not wilds, and they provide › when played... and provide fame depending on how many cards with the same letter you purchase throughout the game.
  • New Starting Wilds Wild cards with a twist - they can be used as any letter, but if you use them as a specific vowel, they trigger abilities to enhance your strategy.
  • New Common Cards Spice up the words you spell with the harder-to-use vowels U and Y.
  • New Fame Cards 12 all new Fame cards (with new values) - each with brand new art from Ryan Goldsberry!
  • Asterisk Cards New and easier way to get wilds into your deck, without sacrificing › down the road.
  • Typos Be careful not to write too quickly or you might end up hitting the wrong key. These cards will eat up your victory cards if you don't get rid of them.
  • 3-Letter Cards A card with 3 letters on it? They can often be harder to use, but help you spell even longer words.
  • Dumpster Dive Recycle old letters from the trash pile, whether played by you or another player.
  • Conditional Word Cards Further capturing the Scrabble-like feel that Paperback provides, we have new conditions to be met in order to receive a bonus - for example, be the second letter in a word, words with repeating letters, words that start with a vowel, words with no wild cards, and more!
  • Wok Star Board Game: 3rd Edition

Wok Star Board Game: 3rd Edition

Wok Star is a cooperative real-time game in which players take on different roles to help grow a Chinese restaurant in a tycoon style game. The clientele of customers is represented by a deck of cards with various Chinese dishes on them. Customers are served one at a time while a 30-second sand timer is running.

Each order requires a combination of ingredients to make. The board is used for tracking the levels of ten prepared ingredients in the kitchen. To prepare more ingredients, players spend dice in different combinations. All players are in charge of different tasks and all must work simultaneously because the timer is running!

At the end of each round, players pool their money and invest in different options to grow their business: acquire new recipes, upgrade preparation cards, or send out coupons to get more customers. The players must have a certain level of profit by the last round to keep the restaurant open and win!

The third edition of Wok Star contains new gameplay wrinkles: You can re-roll dice by "washing dishes" and modify dice by using "hustle". Fortune cubes limit how often you can share dice, and you now have daily goals that you must reach each round or else you lose immediately.
